Kevin Jennings, the quarterback for the SMU Mustangs, is anticipated to take the field in the season opener against the Florida State Seminoles. This comes after he suffered a finger injury earlier this month when he accidentally caught it in a locker room door during fall camp.

Head coach Rhett Lashlee is optimistic about Jennings' recovery, indicating that the redshirt senior has started throwing again and is not experiencing any pain. Lashlee mentioned that Jennings will have a complete two weeks to prepare for the game, with the goal of being fully ready by kickoff.

Lashlee provided an update on Jennings, saying that his recovery is progressing positively and that the plan is to reintegrate him into practice this week. Jennings' return is crucial for SMU's prospects this season, as he achieved impressive statistics last year, including 3,641 passing yards and 26 touchdowns, alongside a completion rate of 66.1%.

However, he also led the ACC with 13 interceptions, indicating an area for improvement as he gears up for the new season.
