Brewers edge Rangers 5-3 as Chourio, Contreras hit early homers

Early Power Play Sets Tone

The Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Texas Rangers 5-3 on Saturday, August 29, at American Family Field. Attendance was 36,895. The game was defined by an explosive first inning from the home club, which took a 2-0 lead before Texas could even answer.

Jackson Chourio initiated the scoring with a 396-foot home run to center field. Immediately following that blast, William Contreras added a 409-foot home run to left field. Both players contributed significantly to the early momentum shift in Milwaukee's favor.

Rangers Strike Back

Texas responded in the second inning when Luis Lara singled to center field. This play allowed Jesus Sanchez to score, narrowing the deficit to 3-1. However, Lara was thrown out stretching at second base.

The Rangers found their second run of the game in the fifth inning. Jordan Freeman connected with a 388-foot home run to left center field. This solo shot brought the score to 3-2, keeping the game within one-run territory for the remainder of the middle innings.

Late-Inning Surge

The Brewers regained control in the seventh inning. Lara singled to left field, scoring Contreras and driving the score to 4-1. Subsequently, Wyatt Mitchell scored on a sacrifice fly by Taylor Pratt, extending Milwaukee's lead to 5-1.

The Rangers cut the deficit to 5-3 in the eighth inning. Juan Soto homered to right center field for a 426-foot blast. This two-run shot scored Max Stassi.

Despite the late rally, Texas was unable to overcome the early deficit established by the Brewers' first-inning offense.

Pitching and Records

Shane Drohan earned the win for Milwaukee, pitching five innings. He allowed six hits and one earned run while striking out six batters and walking one. Chad Patrick pitched 2.1 innings, allowing one hit and two earned runs.

Antonio Senzatela pitched 0.2 innings, allowing one hit and no earned runs. Trevor Megill recorded the save, pitching one hitless and scoreless inning without walks or strikeouts. For Texas, Cal Quantrill took the loss.

He pitched six innings, allowing four hits and three earned runs while striking out eight batters. Peyton Gray pitched one inning, allowing three hits and one earned run. Jakob Junis pitched one inning, allowing no hits or earned runs but walking three batters.

The Brewers improved to 85-51, while the Rangers fell to 66-70.
