Cisco Systems is advancing its technology portfolio through two distinct initiatives: a trial of quantum networking infrastructure and a new partnership to enhance its Webex Contact Center with artificial intelligence capabilities.
The networking effort involves a pilot program at the company’s Photonics Center in Italy. Cisco is deploying Aliro Orchestrator as a management layer for quantum networks. This trial utilizes live quantum key distribution technology integrated directly with Cisco 8000 Series routers. The objective is to evaluate how quantum encryption can secure high-value data center and backbone traffic in a production environment.
In a separate development focused on customer experience, Cisco has entered a collaboration with SuccessKPI. This partnership aims to introduce AI-powered workforce engagement and operational intelligence to the Webex Contact Center platform. The integration allows for unified oversight of both human and AI agents, incorporating workforce management and quality monitoring tools.
Cisco states that this solution is designed to operate without requiring customers to replace existing Cisco deployments.
These technical developments coincide with significant movement in Cisco’s stock performance. Shares of Cisco Systems, traded on the NasdaqGS under the ticker CSCO, are priced at $111.94. The stock has gained 47.2% year to date and 67.2% over the past year.
Over a five-year period, returns stand at 132.1%. Despite these long-term gains, the stock experienced a short-term decline, dropping 6.1% over the past week and 6.4% over the past 30 days.
Analysts note that these projects highlight where Cisco is directing research and development resources. The quantum trial addresses long-term security needs, while the SuccessKPI partnership targets near-term operational improvements. Both moves align with Cisco’s broader strategy emphasizing AI infrastructure, integrated security, and software-centric services as primary growth drivers.
