Cisco Systems Inc.’s Unified Edge platform has been recognized as the winner of the 2026 Tech Innovation CUBEd Award for the most innovative IoT or edge platform. The award highlights the company’s efforts to address infrastructure challenges as enterprises expand their use of edge artificial intelligence beyond traditional data centers.
TheCUBE Research’s Chief Analyst Dave Vellante noted that edge environments are often fragmented, featuring different hardware, protocols, and security standards. He stated that current infrastructure at the edge is not built for AI workloads, creating a difficult problem for organizations trying to manage these systems.
Cisco designed the Unified Edge platform as a modular solution that can scale from a single server to configurations with up to five servers and five GPUs. James Leach, director of product management for Cisco Compute, described the platform as a way for IT teams to build infrastructure today and grow it as business needs become clearer.
He argued this approach helps customers avoid overbuying before understanding their specific edge AI requirements.
The platform integrates Cisco’s computing, networking, and security technologies with Intersight for centralized management. Leach explained that this integration reduces the burden on customers by providing a complete solution rather than a set of separate tools. This centralized management is intended to help IT teams oversee AI infrastructure across distributed locations where technical staffing and resources may be limited.
