Illinois State University will confer an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree upon Jon Farney, the president and chief executive officer of State Farm Insurance. The Illinois State University governing board approved the honor during a meeting on Friday. The degree will be presented at the institution's winter graduation ceremonies scheduled for December 12.

Farney is a graduate of Illinois State University, where he earned a bachelor's degree. He later obtained a Master of Business Administration from the University of Michigan. His professional history with State Farm began in 1993 as a college intern.
