Kongsberg Gruppen has entered into an agreement to supply Kuwait with its Norwegian Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile System, known as NASAMS. The deal is structured through Raytheon under the United States Foreign Military Sales program, the Norwegian technology company stated on Tuesday.
The contract is valued at approximately $400 million for Kongsberg. The company indicated that the mobile defense system, which was developed in cooperation with Raytheon, is intended to assist Kuwait in safeguarding its population and infrastructure from aerial threats.
This announcement follows recent security incidents in the region. Last week, Kuwait experienced missile and drone strikes. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps claimed responsibility for these attacks, stating they were conducted in response to United States strikes against Iran.
Data on Kongsberg’s website shows that the NASAMS system has been utilized by 15 other nations prior to this agreement. The company did not provide specific delivery timelines or further technical specifications for the Kuwaiti order.
