Sachse High School senior defensive lineman Trason Haley announced his commitment to play college football for the University of North Texas on Wednesday, July 1. The 6-foot-3, 305-pound interior lineman made the decision public through his personal X account.

Haley, who is ranked as the No. 67 defensive lineman in the nation by 247Sports and holds a three-star recruit rating, had received 13 college offers. He selected North Texas over other programs including Texas Tech, Purdue, Kansas, and Mississippi State.

The decision places Haley close to his hometown, as Sachse is located about 8 miles east of Richardson. Haley cited the opportunity to play near home for an emerging North Texas Mean Green team as a key factor in his choice, despite having options at several other Power 5 institutions within and outside of Texas.

Haley enters his final season of high school football following a standout junior campaign. During his junior year, he earned a spot on the District 9-6A first team after recording 51 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, five sacks, and two forced fumbles. His performance built upon a breakout sophomore season in which he tallied 40 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, and five sacks.

Haley is one of several Sachse athletes recently recognized for their achievements. Other local sports highlights include Sachse girls soccer reaching the Class 6A Division I state semifinals, incoming senior Abigail Leonard qualifying for the state cross country meet, and junior pitcher Maya McClarity being named District 9-6A softball Most Valuable Player.

Haley’s commitment adds to the growing list of Sachse athletes advancing to the next level of competition. His selection of North Texas marks a significant step in his athletic career as he prepares to transition from high school to college football.
