The City of Plano has postponed a scheduled vote regarding the selection of an alternative public transportation provider, should the municipality decide to withdraw from the Dallas Area Rapid Transit system in May. Local leaders are currently exploring various transit options to replace the existing service.
This delay occurs as DART officials have proposed significant modifications to their governance structure. The agency is attempting to encourage member cities to cancel special elections regarding their potential departure from the system. The proposed changes aim to address concerns that have led some communities to consider leaving the regional transit authority.
Plano is located approximately 5 miles north of Richardson.
In other local developments, city officials are also delaying a decision on a contract with Via, a public transit option. Additionally, the Crayola Experience in Plano remains closed due to unpaid rent, according to a notice posted on the facility's door.
On the sports front, Plano native Amber Glenn has been named to the U.S. Olympic Figure Skating Team and will compete for gold at the 2026 Winter Olympics next month.
Law enforcement reported that a 15-year-old boy is facing a first-degree felony charge after allegedly shooting his father at their Plano home on Monday morning. The juvenile was detained following the incident.
