The Dallas Cowboys have officially added veteran linebacker Von Miller, a native of DeSoto, Texas, who indicated he had discussions with the team before training camp began. Miller, entering his 15th season in the NFL, aims to bolster the Cowboys' defense, especially in pass protection, with a notable career total of 138.5 sacks, the highest among active players.

Miller's signing intensifies competition at the edge rusher position, potentially putting the roster spots of several players at risk. He is expected to take on the role of left outside linebacker, a position currently held by Rashan Gary, who joined the team through a trade this spring. Rookie Malachi Lawrence is also training for this role.

On the right side, second-year player Donovan Ezeiruaku is set for the right outside linebacker position, with James Houston anticipated as a key rotational player. This situation limits opportunities for Sam Williams and Marist Liufau, who must prove their worth to secure a spot on the 53-man roster. Liufau, noted for his potential as an inside linebacker with blitzing skills, may have trade value.

The Cowboys also have other candidates like Tyrus Wheat, Isaiah Land, and Adedayo Odeleye, with 17 practice squad slots available for promising players. Details regarding roster adjustments following Miller's signing remain unclear.
