Jacob Fields has been removed from the TCU football team just weeks before the season opener against North Carolina. This decision follows a physical altercation that occurred in the locker room on August 13, as reported in the TCU crime and fire log.
The Fort Worth Star-Telegram described the incident as an aggravated assault, indicating that Fields was involved in a confrontation with a teammate. Sources revealed that Fields had previously felt targeted by teammates, facing insults and threats, including being spat on. Despite reaching out to the coaching staff multiple times about the tensions, he did not receive a response.
Fields, who transferred to TCU from Louisiana Tech this offseason, was anticipated to start at free safety. In 2025, he was named the Conference USA Co-Defensive Player of the Year, leading his previous team with 92 tackles and making three interceptions, two of which were returned for touchdowns. He also recorded 2.5 tackles for loss and five pass breakups last season.
Further information regarding the incident and its consequences has not been disclosed.
