Caden Powell, a native of Waco and former player for Baylor, is returning to the basketball team for the 2026-27 season after a recent court ruling in Ohio. Previously, Powell played for Wyoming and Rice before joining Baylor last season, where he was initially expected to be a backup center. However, due to injuries on the team, he ended up starting by the season's conclusion.

This season's Baylor roster is significantly different, as head coach Scott Drew aims to create a deeper lineup that can withstand the rigors of a full season and compete effectively through March. Powell's unexpected return adds depth to the team.

While he may not immediately reclaim a starting role, Powell is anticipated to be a key contributor off the bench, bringing defensive strength and the ability to be a lob threat for the Bears.

The projected depth chart includes Kayden Mingo and Dylan Mingo as starting guards, with Juslin Bodo Bodo as the starting center and Powell listed in the rotation at center alongside Mayo Soyoye.

Powell's experience will be invaluable to a young team, which previously had only two seniors, Evan Chatman and Juslin Bodo Bodo. His familiarity with the Big 12 is expected to enhance team chemistry and leadership as they prepare for the upcoming season.
