State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Company has initiated a one-time $5 billion cash-back dividend for qualifying auto insurance policyholders. The insurer describes this distribution as the largest of its kind in its more than century-long history.

The company stated that payments are being sent out in waves to more than 49 million customers. The amount each individual receives depends on a percentage of the premium paid for their qualifying policy in 2025. These percentages vary by state, ranging from 4% to 10%.

State Farm plans to notify eligible customers regarding their pending payments via email or physical letter. Because the distribution involves millions of recipients, the process is expected to take several months to complete nationwide.

Jon Farneyin, president and CEO of State Farm Mutual, explained that the mutual structure allows the company to provide direct value to customers while maintaining financial strength. He noted that this approach resulted in lower auto rates and the current cash-back dividend for the year.

The insurer clarified that these payments are retrospective and will not impact future auto insurance rates. Future premiums will continue to be determined by expected costs and risk monitoring trends.

According to data compiled by Lending Tree from the National Association of Insurance Commissioners, State Farm holds the largest market share for auto insurance in the United States. It is followed by Progressive, Geico, and Allstate.

State Farm Insurance employs about 12,000 people in Richardson, according to local government records.
