As the 2026 season nears, Baylor University's football team is witnessing a competitive race for the Star position. The addition of several players from Kansas State, following the hiring of Joe Klanderman as the new defensive coordinator, has enhanced the depth of the Bears' defense.
Bo Onu, a safety standing 6 feet tall and weighing 210 pounds, participated in 11 games last season as a true freshman, accumulating nine tackles. Klanderman has noted considerable progress in Onu's skills and is optimistic about his growth for the upcoming year.
Daniel Cobbs, who has previously worked with Klanderman and logged 415 total snaps last season, is also in contention for the starting position.
Klanderman remarked on the close nature of the competition, highlighting the promising abilities of both players. He stated, "That's a really good race right now," indicating his confidence in their capacity to excel in critical moments.
Regardless of who earns the starting role, Klanderman intends to utilize both Onu and Cobbs throughout the season. He stressed the significance of rotating players to maintain their energy, explaining that having two players share snaps can be equally beneficial.
