The Houston Texans have finalized a trade to acquire Kayshon Boutte from the New England Patriots. In exchange, the Texans provided a seventh-round draft pick along with safety Jayden Reed. This move comes after the injury of second-year receiver Jayden Higgins, who tore his ACL during practice.
Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans commented on the acquisition after a joint practice with the Carolina Panthers. He emphasized Boutte's potential to bolster the team's offense, particularly in light of Higgins' injury. "Adding Kayshon is a big get for us," Ryans remarked, noting Boutte's playmaking ability and prior experience against the Texans.
Boutte, selected in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL Draft, has shown reliable performance in his tenure with the Patriots. In the 2025 season, he achieved 33 receptions totaling 551 yards and scored six touchdowns, playing a significant role in the Patriots' Super Bowl run.
This achievement marked his second straight season with more than 30 catches and 500 yards, while also seeing his touchdown total increase from the previous year.
With Higgins sidelined, Boutte is anticipated to work alongside Nico Collins as an outside receiver, enhancing the Texans' downfield offensive capabilities. Ryans expressed hope for Boutte's growth, highlighting that he is still young and has the potential to develop further. The Texans aim to leverage Boutte's experience and drive during this pivotal season.
